Life Painting

The figure is a quick 25 min study, not much attention to proportion. The focus is light, shadow, and intensity. The still lifes took different amounts of time, anywhere from and hour to three hours. I think I prefer the shorter ones because I am more focused on seeing the image as a whole than focusing on the small details. All done in oils. I photographed these outside, seemed to work a little better this time.

Watercolor on paper. Note to self :I really should take the time to do some higher quality photography for these.

Playing with more watercolor

These pictures are really washed out but I enjoyed doing these more than the flower. It was more entertaining doing quick little paintings using wet into wet. i like the way the colors flow into each other.

Watercolor painting

This is the watercolor I did for Eric's parents. It's from a picture I took at the garden in the Dole plantation. I don't like these photos since they look a bit washed out. It's actually much more vibrant in real life. I was pretty happy with how it turned out considering I didn't really have much of a plan for how I was going to do it. It was fun playing and practicing with watercolor. I think I'll do it more.

This is the painting I gave Eric for Valentine's Day. I think it turned out pretty well. The only thing I would change is the faded border around the edge. I think I like the cropped pic better if that had been the the total composition.

The first piece is a simple vase I threw and glazed in a metallic colored low fire glaze. The piece below it is a simple cup and saucer, also thrown on the wheel. This one was glazed with high fire earth tones.

These two cups were my favorite. I love working with high fire glazes to get the earthy tones.

Vase

I used ceramic cement to get the texture along the side of this vase. It turned out nice. The picture doesn't do the piece justice.

Cute Ceramics

This is a cute little ceramic bowl I did in wheel throwing. It's funny how my mistakes end up turning out nice most of the time. This one flew off the wheel when I was learning =).

Jim Morrison's Last Meal

These pieces make up a place setting called Jim Morrison's Last Meal. (The "cocaine" lines are actually flour so no one freak out please) The pieces in the place setting are three trays that sit on the side of a bathtub, a plate with the quotes from one of his songs, a whiskey bottle, a shotglass that has a straw attached to the side of it, and a razor blade that was not ceramic. I really like the way the pieces all came together. The dark glaze really works to set the tone.

This is a handbuilt porcelain ceramic piece. I had some issues with this thing cracking because the clay is so hard to work with. I was able to use a little bit of ceramic cement to patch it up. I added a dark high fire glaze to it and ta da! a unique table piece. I actually really like how it turned out. Sometimes working through the unexpected can result in success.
